The Iron Rose Salon

Misty's story... "I feel like one of the lucky ones. Growing up very poor in an abusive home where I was neglected I found myself homeless in the streets with a drug addiction by the age 16. By 25 I had two boys and was trying to turn it around for them. I found recovery and got clean. Of course, life still happens and I struggled. I had over 30 jobs mostly in fast food. I was on food stamps and DHS assistance.  I started as a receptionist in a salon that I loved. The owner encouraged me to go to cosmetology school so I got my GED and went. I worked there several years before I read a booked called "Who Moved My Cheese." I was inspired to open my own place. I Decided that life is short and I really wanted to do it on my own. I had no idea how to run a business or how hard it would be but I was determined. With just the money I was making behind the chair I decided to open my first salon in 2013 and I had to close 9 months later. After a year I decided to try it again and borrow some money from a dear friend who has now passed. I reopened the Iron Rose Salon in 2014… it has not been easy, I had no big money, just support of great friends, a loving husband, a dream, and a hellbent attitude! When I re-opened it was just me. Today I have 12 chairs and a receptionist. I have created a space for hairstylist to work where they can be themselves, and not have to conform. They don’t have to sell anything or dress a certain way. We listen to loud music and the energy is high! I want people to walk in and feel at home." ~ Misty
